You do not need to be an artist. I believe we all possess the desire to create. Many of us search for ways to find that talent, while others simply give up. In 1992 I was at a Business Fair, looking for a small business I could start. I walked by a small booth that had a few pieces of very nice art lying on the table; also on the table was a small rotary air driven tool. The gentleman asked if I would like to engrave a Rose into the mirror. At first I simply stared at him as though he was an alien that did not realize most people lacked the talent to draw a Rose much less engrave one. But he explained that the Rose was photo copied onto a product called appliqué film and I just had to trace the lines of the rose. The appliqué film has a sticky back so he positioned it onto the mirror. He handed me the tool and I simply traced the lines. As I traced, it cut through the film into the mirror. Once the appliqué was taken off the mirror, it left a beautiful engraved rose that I had engraved with my own hands. Simply by tracing lines! EASY!
I purchased the tool and have been engraving/carving since that time. I teach many advanced classes for anyone that wants a jump start in the many techniques of engraving/carving in almost any medium you wish to work with.
360,000 rpm
A good electric tool will turn about 15,000 to 45,000 rpm. At those slow speeds you have a lot of pulling, skipping, and aggravation when engraving / carving. At 360,000 rpm there is NO pulling, skipping or aggravation, which allows you to engrave or carve on the most delicate of surfaces. You can easily sign your name on glass, or carve something as delicate as a goose egg.
